Compassion. Experience. Trust.

About

I am a psychotherapist in private practice in Hoboken, New Jersey. I provide individual therapy to children, adolescents, and adults, as well as family therapy and couples therapy.  I also provide treatment to families preparing for divorce and for post-divorce co-parenting issues. I also have a great deal of experience in the treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma, anger management/domestic violence, and childhood disorders. I also work with people with intimacy issues and those who are court involved for sex offences.

I was trained as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and I bring 31 years of clinical experience to my work with patients. I am committed to helping people develop effective coping strategies and successfully navigate their way through life’s challenges.

Approach

I am eclectic in my approach, with specific attunement to the connection between body, mind, and spirit. I provide a safe space that allows people to discuss difficult material at their own pace and comfort level. Ultimately, I feel my role is to help people be clearer about factors affecting them, thus making it more likely to find solutions and effect meaningful change.

In working with children, a variety of treatment methods are utilized to better facilitate expression of complex feelings, emotions, and experiences. My philosophy is to allow children the freedom to make choices to talk about their issues or work with various materials (i.e. therapeutic and non-therapeutic board games, use of creative play, toys, sand-tray, and art materials). Providing education to parents on a wide variety of issues is an important part of working with children as well.

Clients tell me that I am very warm, compassionate, and bring helpful skill and experience to their treatment. I view psychotherapy as a collaborative process that can hopefully empower clients to gain more control of their lives. My goal in providing treatment is to help people resolve issues to the point where treatment is no longer needed.

Experience

I am a clinical social worker and psychotherapist (MSW, New York University 2001). In the early part of my career, I gained invaluable experience working in an inpatient psychiatric facility in Paramus, NJ: Bergen Pines County Hospital.  As a staff member working directly with psychiatric patients, I became well versed in the range of major psychiatric disorders, honing an expertise in crisis intervention, and gained a great deal of insight on psychopharmacology, group and family therapy.  I also gained a great deal of knowledge about the various populations that I worked with: children, adolescents, and adults with acute psychiatric issues; those with chemical dependency; geriatric patients and forensic psychiatry.

After working in an inpatient psychiatric setting, I applied what I learned in working with people with schizophrenia at Advanced Housing. Here, a full range of support was provided to those re-entering the community in an effort to become as independent as possible. After completing my master’s degree in social work, I worked at Hudson Guild Outpatient Mental Health Clinic. Here I provided individual therapy to children, adolescents, and adults, family therapy, couples/marital therapy and led anger management groups for adults. Collaborating with children’s teachers was also an important facet of their treatment.

I also provided treatment to those affected by the 911 tragedy via the Project Liberty program. My training was enhanced by continuing with clinical supervision with a Ph.D. clinician with over 30 years of experience.

Since 2004, I have been working in the Jersey City Public School system in the Early Childhood Department. My primary role is to provide support to teachers and parents of 3-5 year old students in the PreK program who experience developmental issues in and outside the classroom. Typical examples are behavioral, social, or emotional difficulties that impact a student’s ability to succeed academically. I also conduct workshops for teachers and parents addressing topics such as Responding to Children’s Challenging Behavior, Safe Touch/Unsafe Touch, Helping Children Manage Anxiety, Responding to Trauma/Disasters, ADHD, Benefits for Structure and Routines in the Home, and Benefits of Play Therapy, to name a few.

Since 2005, I have been in private practice in Hoboken, NJ, where I work individually with children, adolescents and adults, and with couples and families. I have also consulted at local hospitals by conducting anger management groups for adults, a women’s group addressing domestic violence, and a support group for new mothers experiencing challenges with their spouses regarding bonding.

Finances and Insurance

I am an out-of-network provider which means that I do not participate in any insurance panels. However, some policies do reimburse a portion of the fee for out-of-network mental health services (psychotherapy). To learn more about the amount of coverage you have for treatment, you may want to call the telephone number on your insurance card listed for “Behavioral Health” and ask the following questions:

•    Do I have out-of-network benefits and what is my individual/family deductible for out-of-network providers?
•    What percentage of the therapy cost is covered for out-of-network providers after the deductible is met?
•    Is there a cap on reimbursement for services?
•    Is a pre-authorization required?

After three or four sessions, I will provide you with a completed insurance claim form which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. If you have any problems, I will assist you with this process. Individual sessions are generally 45 minutes and between one hour and 90 minutes for couples or family sessions; there is a standard fee for each. There is a 24-hour cancellation policy, except in emergency situations.

•    Average Cost (per session): $150 - $180
•    Accepted Payment Methods: Check, cash, Zelle, Venmo
